SALMON AND SEA TROUT FISHING Minmore House has 1.5 miles of private fishing on the River Avon (pronounced 'aarn') and 3 miles on the River Livet. The Avon is a major tributary of the River Spey, and is joined by the Livet before entering the middle reaches of the Spey near Bridge of Avon. The Spey is one of Scotland's top salmon rivers and both the Avon and Livet, although much smaller in size, regularly produce good runs of salmon and sea trout. Fish begin to arrive from April onwards, with summer grilse appearing in July. September can be productive, with the arrival of the autumn salmon run. The character of both rivers is clear and streamy, with well-defined rocky pools. The fishing on the Hotel beats is by fly only. Fishing may also be available on the Spey by prior arrangement. Click here to see Yuri Janssen's first salmon, caught on the Spey. Tackle: Rods - 14' or 15' for late spring and autumn, 10' or 11' for low water in summer and sea trout. Floating and sinking lines. Salmon Flies: Waddingtons and tubes for heavy water, size 8 or 9 doubles or trebles at other times. Patterns - Garry Dog, Munro Killer, Dunkeld, Stoats Tail. Availability: day and weekly lets. Prices: June/July - 350UKP per rod/week. May/Aug/Sept - 300UKP. April - 15UKP/day. Ghillies: by prior arrangement. Spey Salmon Season: 11 February - 30 Sept. |
