KILCHOAN
ESTATE was formerly part of Knoydart Estate and is located
in one of the most unspoilt parts of the Western Highlands. Access
to this remote and beautiful region on the north shore
of Loch Nevis is either on foot or by boat from Mallaig, and the
local pub in Inverie village is recognised as the most remote hostelry
on mainland Britain. Kilchoan is therefore ideal for those wishing
to experience true wilderness fishing. Accommmodation is situated
just far enough away from the village for complete privacy, and fishing
is available on the nearby River Inverie and estate lochs.
The Knoydart peninsula is ideal for hill-walking and other outdoor

| FISHING
AT KILCHOAN Kilchoan Fishing (Knoydart) offers fishing in a landscape which has been named as Europe’s last great wilderness area. The first runs of sea-trout start in early June with grilse coming later on in the month and towards the first two weeks of July. After this period everything is dependent on rainfall, which can be fairly regular in this part of the Western Highlands. The Inverie river will hold fish most of the season but if things are quiet anglers can head for Loch an Dubhlochain (Grid:821004 OS33) where there is always good sport to be had with brown trout, Arctic char or migratory fish that have already run the river. ![]()
PRICES (excluding VAT @ 17.5%) RIVER INVERIE: Inverie River including Loch Dubhlochain and boat. Peak season 15 July - 30 September inclusive: 50 GB Pounds per day, 200 GBP per week (6 days). Off-peak season: 30 GBPper day, 100 GBP per week. Catch and release for salmon and sea-trout. No Sunday fishing. LOCH BHROAMISAIG: 10 GBP per rod per day. Special rates available for week's fishing with accommodation in The Fank. |
RIVER
INVERIE - SALMON, TROUT & SEA-TROUT FISHING The Inverie River is fed from Loch an Dubhlochain and contains salmon, sea-trout and brown trout. It has 16 named pools and flows west to the coastal Loch Nevis. Loch an Dubhlochain can also be fished, either by the estate's pioneer boat or from the bank. The Inverie drains the loch at the southern end and winds 4 miles to the sea. On its way it is joined by the Meadall River at the Long Pool - a favourite with anglers as it is deep and holds fish until there’s enough water for them to run into the loch. The river is shaded occasionally by trees, but it can be waded to maximise coverage of the pools.
![]() TACKLE & METHODS Fishing on the Inverie is by fly only, unless the river is in spate, at which time spinning may be permitted. For fly fishing a single-handed sea trout/grilse rod of 10-11 feet with No 8 line is ideal for fishing the river at most heights. Traditional Scottish salmon and sea-trout fly patterns ranging in size from small doubles to Waddingtons work well, and advice on fly selection can be had from the Estate. The use of barbless hooks is encouraged on the river system, which currently operates on a catch and release basis. This may change in the near future as Kilchoan Estate has had a restocking policy in place for the past 5 years, with over 40,000 fingerlings or fed fry introduced to the river. There are now good signs of recovery in both salmon and sea-trout stocks. Kilchoan Trout & Salmon Season: 15th March to 6th October |
